WORK-IX

The WORK- IX is an Internet node in Hamburg.

Development

The WORK- IX was originally a project of the Hamburg-based Internet service provider n @ work. He has since 2002 been in operation and served as the successor of the then set INX -HH. In 2007, the DE- CIX Management GmbH, headquartered in Cologne took over the operation and marketing of the WORK -IX. Since then, new customers like Google, Lambdanet and Versatel have opted for a connection to the WORK -IX. The new Hamburg location will allow the existing customers and new customers to establish peerings in northern Germany to provide redundancy and to save management costs. Work- IX is marketed as DE- CIX Hamburg since the end of 2012

Technology

The switch infrastructure enables ISPs charge exchange data ( " peering "). The connection of customers is by Ethernet ports with bandwidths from 100 Mbit / s and 10 Gbit / s The hardware consists of the employed until 2007 when DE- CIX in Frankfurt switch technology from Cisco Catalyst 6509 - NEB -type -A. On the DE- CIX switch equipment of the company and Brocade, Force10 has since (formerly Foundry Networks ) are used.

The switches are operated in the data centers of the company n @ work and Incolocate located in Hamburg- Hamm at the office center Luise ( Wendenstraße 379 ). In the house more data centers are housed, as the location of one of the most important nodes of the Hanseatic city is where all major carriers are represented.

The WORK- IX currently has a peak throughput of about 26 Gbit / s
