World Monuments Fund

The World Monuments Fund (WMF) is a nonprofit, international organization with headquarters in New York City, which campaigns for the preservation of monuments and historical sites around the world. The World Monuments Fund is funded by the American Express Foundation, the main sponsor, and around 25 other foundations, including the Brown Foundation, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

World Monuments Watch

In 1995, American Express and World Monuments Watch the WMF ( WMW ) founded. This is a bi-annual list of the 100 most endangered cultural monuments, the List of Most Endangered Monuments, together. Using the list the international public is made aware of the endangered monuments in order to raise funds and sponsorship for their conservation. In the last ten years were financed by these donations renovation work on 119 endangered cultural monuments in 59 countries. In 2006, for example, the rehabilitation of the Old Bridge, the landmark of the Old Town of Heidelberg - as the first cultural monument in Germany - part of the World Monuments Watch program with $ 100,000 ( 82,500 euros ) support.
