World Osteoporosis Day

The World Osteoporosis Day (English world osteoporosis day) is celebrated annually on October 20.

History

The day of action was first proclaimed in 1996 by the UK National Osteoporosis Society ( NOS) on the initiative of Linda Edwards. The following year, the International Osteoporosis Foundation took up the idea. It organizes the day annually since then. In 1998, the Action of the World Health Organization (WHO ) has been recognized. In this and the following year, the WHO also supported the usual year-long campaign that follows the day of action.

Since 1999, the day is every year a different theme, the cancer on one aspect of risk, osteoporosis or recognize a disease or avoid points.

World Osteoporosis Day to the International Osteoporosis Foundation and the national medical societies and self -help groups and their federations organize appropriate educational sessions about the disease. The German Federal self-help association for osteoporosis eV ( BfO ) directed since 2001, from an annual patient conference, which takes place every year in a different city and is attended by around 2000 people.
