World Press Photo
The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization that was founded in 1955 in the Netherlands. Patron of the organization is currently Prince Constantijn of Orange- Nassau.
The main objective of World Press Photo is to support the work of professional press photographers. Over the years, World Press Photo has evolved into an independent, internationally renowned platform for photojournalism. To achieve its objectives, the World Press Photo organizes every year the world's largest competition for press photography. The winning photos will be displayed in a traveling exhibition that is seen in more than 80 cities around the world by over a million visitors. Accompanying a yearbook with all winning entries will be published in six languages .
In addition to the exhibition program, World Press Photo dealing with current developments in photojournalism. Funded projects play an increasingly important role: will include seven times a year in developing countries organized seminars for photographers, photo agencies and picture editors.
Competition
When carried out annually by the foundation World Press Photo Contest, the Press Photo of the Year is chosen. The election of the Press Photo of the Year is the biggest and highest award among photographers.
This competition is the only international competition of its kind, attended by photographers from around the world. Each year, the deadline end of January, tens of thousands of press free press photographers, press agencies, newspapers and magazines at World Press Photo in Amsterdam. The entries cover all important message-related events of the previous year. In this respect, the competition is always a summary of current world events. In each category, three prizes for the best individual images and three prizes will be awarded for the best photo series / photo stories.
