World Youth Day 2000

The XV. World Youth Day was a Catholic youth meeting, which was held in the Italian capital Rome from 15th to 20th August 2000. According to the organizers about two million young people took part, including 12,000 German.

The World Youth Day fell this year along with the proclaimed by Pope John Paul II the Great Jubilee of the Catholic Church. The final mass of the event was the first time not in St. Peter's Square, but on the grounds of the University of Tor Vergata instead.

The motto of the XV. World Youth Day was:

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14 EU)
