Wotruba Church

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity (also: Wotrubakirche ) in Vienna is a Roman Catholic church made ​​of concrete blocks, which was built between August 1974 and October 1976 according to designs by Fritz Wotruba and the architect Fritz Gerhard Mayr. She is a Rector of the parish church wall.

Location

The so-called Wotrubakirche is located on the mountain in the district of George Mauer ( corner Rysergasse / George Street) in the district Liesing on the site of the former air messages troops barracks. Near the church there is a concrete platform that serves as an open air planetarium.

History

It was created on the initiative of Margaret Ottilinger and an idea by Fritz Wotruba.

Architecture

The building consists of 152 raw concrete blocks between 0.84 m3 (1.84 t) and 64 m3 (141 t); the tallest block measures 13.10 meters.

The light falls through simple glass panes that are used in the irregular spaces, resulting in overlapping beams of light. There is a cast of the jobs created by Wotruba for the Hofkirche in Bruchsal Cross on the altar wall.
