Yuma County

Wray is a small town in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Colorado, located approximately 250 km east of Denver on Republican River - approximately 20 kilometers from the state borders of Kansas and Nebraska. The city is the county seat of Yuma County. Wray was All American City in 1993.

A long chain of grass -covered sand hills extends north of the city. Rocks, cliffs and canyons surrounding it in the south. By water that is pumped from the Ogallala Aquifer and irrigated circular, the fertile area around Wray can be used for agriculture. The sandy soil north of the city is particularly well suited for potato cultivation. On the fertile fields in the south grow corn, wheat, lucerne (alfalfa ), sunflower and millet ( sorghum). Maize cultivation and pastures favor the cattle and make the area around Wray one of the main meat-producing areas in Colorado.

26 km southeast of Wray is the Beecher Iceland Battle Ground Memorial. Here a battle between Indians and a troop of U.S. Cavalry was from 17 to September 26, 1868 instead of on a small island in the Arickaree Fork of the Republican River. This place was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 29, 1976.
