Wren

House Wren (troglodytes aedon )

The Wrens ( Troglodytidae ) are a family of birds from the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ), subordination of songbirds ( Passeri ).

The family includes 17 genera and about 80 species. Almost all types are located exclusively in the New World, and there occupy different habitats. The only exception is in both North America and Eurasia widespread wren. In Europe it is the only representative of this family.

Appearance

Wrens are insectivorous birds with predominantly brown, sometimes dark quergebändertem plumage. They have short wings, and many maintain their short burst steeply upwards. They are usually small and inconspicuous except for their loud singing.

Dissemination

The family settled almost all of North and South America, with the exception of the northern parts of Alaska and Canada and most of the West Indies. The greatest density of species is found in mountainous regions with tropical climates, especially in the northwest of South America and the Central American land bridge. Leaders are Colombia and Mexico with 33 species with 31 species.

Only a single species, the wren ( Troglodytes troglodytes), also occurs outside of America, namely in Europe, North Africa, East Asia and in parts of Central, South and Southwest Asia.
