Wu Den-yih

Wu Den -yih (吴敦义Chinese, Pinyin Wú Dunyi, W.-G. Wu Ten -i, born January 30, 1948 in Caotun, Nantou County ) is a Taiwanese politician of the Kuomintang ( KMT ), and since May 20, 2012 Vice President the Republic of China on Taiwan.

Biography

Wu studied at the National Taiwan University and earned a bachelor's degree in history. According to serve military service, he worked from 1971 to 1973 as a journalist with the China Times. Wu Den -yih is married with Tsai Ling -yi and has three sons and a daughter.

Party offices

Wu was 1989-1990 Chairman of the Municipal Committee of the KMT Taipei. Between 1993 and 2000 he was a member of the Central Committee of the KMT from 2007 to 2009 and Secretary-General and Vice-Chairman.

Political career

Wu began his political career in 1973 when he was elected to the City Council of Taipei. After eight years as an alderman from 1981 to 1989 he was Chief Executive of Nantou County. Subsequently, he was from 1990 to 1998 mayor of Kaohsiung, but lost the 1998 election campaign against Frank Hsieh. From 2002 to 2009 he was a member of Nantou County in Parliament ( Legislative Yuan ) of the Republic of China. Following the resignation of the government of Liu Chao- shiuan on September 10, 2009, he was appointed by President Ma Ying- jeou as prime minister.

In the 2012 presidential election, he ran to the side of Ma Ying- jeou for the office of Vice President and entered this office on 20 May, 2012. His successor in office as prime minister in February 2012 Sean Chen.
