Wuhan University

The Wuhan University (Chinese武汉 大学/武汉 大学, Pinyin Wǔhàn Daxue, colloquially Wǔdà -武 大) is one of the most prestigious universities in the People's Republic of China. It is located in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

The university was in 1893 ( Qing Dynasty ) in Wuhan as Ziqiang Institute ( Abbreviation:自强 学堂, traditional characters :自强 学堂, Pinyin: Ziqiang xuétáng ) was founded. Later they changed their name several times. During the Sino-Japanese War, the University moved to Leshan in Sichuan province, but then returned to the old location.

Today's Wuhan University was established in August 2000 through the consolidation of a selected number at the location universities. It has about 45,000 students, including about 600 foreigners and 5,000 teachers in 29 departments.

The 196 -acre campus is known for its scenic location. The buildings are built in the palace style of the early 10th century.

The Wuhan University maintains partnerships and exchange programs with many universities abroad, eg since 1987 with the University of Trier.
