Wuppertal Wings

The Barmer TV 1846 is a sports club based in Wuppertal. It consists of departments for athletics, basketball, roller sports, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Everyman, nordic walking meeting, Prellball, skiing and orienteering, Stunt, aerobics, taekwondo and dance. The association has about 2,000 members (as of 2008 ).

History

On October 1, 1846 active Wuppertal Barmen TV Turner founded the association in 1846, which is the oldest sports club Wuppertal. The first chairman was the manufacturer Heinrich Colsmann. There was initially only the division gymnastics and fencing, came in early 1900 tennis, rounders, athletics and music added. 1913 moved an entire football department in the BTV. In the late 1940s, the club also has decreed a skiing and orienteering Department. There followed the handball, hockey and basketball department.

End of the 1970s had to close due to lack of interest the fencing and the hockey department.

Achievements

In particular, the athletes and the basketball players of the club achieved national and international titles.

Athletics

The athletics department celebrated in 1932 its first national success. With Kurt Lohmann over 200 m, Ewald Vach about 800 meters and in the 4x100 - meter relay athletes of BTV victories arrive at national championships. Emmy Albus ran with the national team, a new world record. An Olympic gold medal they just missed out on the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, as lying in the lead on the anchor leg of the German squadron lost the rod.

The club also made it in 1940 with Hans Emde, Werner Lueg and Friedel Stracke the relay world record holder over 3x1000 m world record holder and Werner Lueg the bronze medalist in the Olympic 1500m final race in 1952.

With Christa Vahlensieck the club from 1975, until 1980 the world's best marathon runner. Repeatedly improved the world record and screwed it to 2 hours and 33 minutes. In addition, she twice won the famous New Year's run in Sao Paulo.

Women's Basketball

Another highlight of the club's history began, headed by Renate and Joachim Kehrenberg Women's Basketball Department of BTV. The first German championship in 1989 followed the series championship 1993 to 2002. During the years 1989 and 1992 to 2002 the Wuppertal inner German Cup winners were also. International could BTV Wuppertal as the only German women's basketball team so far win an international title. 1996 and 1997 were the basketball players in the final of Euro League and won this in 1996.
