Württembergischer Yacht Club

The Württemberg Yacht Club ( WYC ) is a yacht club in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance.

History

Today WYC was originally registered as the Royal Württemberg yacht club in January 1911 in the Register of Associations of the former district office Tettnang. Still in its first year has begun with the construction of this facility and the creation of a small club house. In 1920 the Club 358 members

The founding of the club, inspired by King William II, then sprang from the great enthusiasm and willingness to make sacrifices for the establishment of a German fleet that reached inland to deep. After careful preparations, the Württemberg followed in 1911 the example of Bavaria, Austria and Baden with starting their own yacht clubs. In 1913 took place in Friedrichshafen, commissioning the Schauffelraddampfer Hohentwiel, the state yacht of King William.

The first Stander, from its founding to 1935, adorned with a royal crown. This character was able to hold over the period of the Weimar Republic. In the Third Reich a ban on the king's crown was made in Stander of the Yacht Club. On 28 April 1944, Allied bombing squadron destroyed the clubhouse. The city's port was heavily damaged, the winter storage shed in Seemoos - with well over 100 boats - got a hit.

The heads of the House of Württemberg were and are the WYC to the present day strongly connected, because they each represent the honorary commodore; of 1911 were: King William II and Duke Albrecht, Duke Philip and since Carl Duke of Württemberg.
