Xiaoyi

The city Xiaoyi (孝义 市) is a county-level city, which belongs in the Midwest of the Chinese province of Shanxi to the administrative area of the prefecture-level city Lüliang. It has an area of 948 km ² and has about 430,000 inhabitants.

In the time of the Spring and Autumn Annals 594 BC. Xiaoyi was founded under the name " Guayang ". During the period of the Three Kingdoms and the Northern Wei, it was renamed " Zhongyang ". The last renaming of the city took place in the year 627 in " Xiaoyi ," after the name of Emperor Tang Taizong.

The area of Xiaoyi is known for rich deposits of mineral resources such as coal, iron ore and bauxite. Also typical for Xiaoyi are choosing nut cultivation and - as a cultural peculiarity - the shadow play theater.

The Zhongyang Building ( Zhongyang lou中 阳 楼) is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China.
