Xiling Seal Art Society

The National Museum of Chinese seals (中国 印 学 博物馆, Zhōngguó Yinxue Bówùguǎn ) was made available by the Xiling Seal Society to the public in 1999. It is located at the West Lake in Hangzhou. It deals not only with the East Asian widespread carved seals, but more generally with written documents on metal and stone.

Xiling Seal Society

Xiling Seal Society (西泠印社, Xiling yìnshè ), founded in 1904, is a " treasure" of China's ethnic culture, which has the goal to preserve the inscriptions on metals and stones. The focal points of activity include: publications, exhibition and collection of historical objects, cultural contacts with foreign countries; by these cultural and artistic treasures of China could be used effectively.

Among the changing historical conditions since the founding 100 years ago, her numerous nationally and internationally recognized scholars, artists, theorists, collectors and connoisseurs from the world of metal and stone inscriptions have listened.

National Chinese Seal Museum

On the territory and by the cultural assets of the Xiling Society was 1999, the National Museum of the Chinese seals are made public. The goal is to perform on the basis of cultural exhibitions to seal calligraphy and painting, expand the intellectual knowledge and to promote cultural exchanges.

The national " Chinese Seal Museum " is currently the only museum in China, which deals specifically with the Sigillography and the art of seal cutting. It was opened to the public on 26 September 1999.

The Seal Museum is located at the eastern end of the Xiling Bridge of the West Lake. The building covers 1300 square meters. The name inscription was created by Zhao Puchu. Prior to the main building, a 4,20 m high seal handle was set up in the form of a white dragon. The main building houses the Hall of the historic state seal, the Hall of seal cutting art and the Hall of calligraphy. The objects show the evolution of the seal and the seal of the customer and are a selection of the best 600 objects; including rarely seen ceramic discs from the early Qin period, clay seals and the incomparable Seal of the Qin and the Han Dynasty; the earliest album worldwide with seal impressions, from the Ming period, collected by the family Gu; Originals and works by the masters of all art movements of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In addition, here, the hall is on the history of Xiling Society. The covered passages, the harmonious relationship of the buildings of the Company and the Seal Seal Museum give an organic unit, embedded in the landscape of the West Lake.
