Xisheng jing

The Xisheng jing (Chinese西 升 经/西 升 经, Pinyin Xisheng jīng, W.-G. Hsi -sheng ching, English Scripture of Western Ascension, in writing of the Western Ascension ') is a Daoist text from the late 5th century. The Xisheng jing reports on the Daoist doctrine that Laozi Yin Xi handed before he went westward to India.

The date of origin of the Xisheng jing is uncertain, it is estimated to be the "late 5th century " ( Kohn 2007:1114 ) or " 6th century " ( Komjáthy 2004:52 ).

The Daoist canon ( Daozang ) contains two copies of the Song Dynasty ( DZ 726 and 666): the Xisheng jing Jizhu西 升 经 集注" Collected Comments on the font of the Western Ascension " by Chen Jingyuan († 1094 ) and the Xisheng jing by Emperor Huizong徽宗(reigned 1100-1125 ).

The work was translated into English by Livia Kohn.
