Xpress 200

As IGP / G denotes AMD integrated graphics units (Integrated Graphics Processor) on their own chipsets. Under the name of Radeon Xpress already sold their ATI Technologies CrossfireX enabled solutions.

By directly on the motherboard integrated graphics processors ( so-called " on-board " or " shared memory " solutions ), no additional graphics card is required, which allows lower-cost PC systems and reducing power consumption. Graphics memory requirements are covered by the main memory. With such graphics solutions can by no means the performance of the conventional plug-in graphics cards can be achieved since the main memory significantly slower than the immediately housed on the graphics card memory. Simultaneously, the overall system performance is affected because the main memory is shared also by the graphics chip. For not purely grafiklastige applications called professional office or industrial productivity solutions like Office packages and SAP clients that graphics performance is still adequate; of such stocked PCs have the advantage of lower power consumption with reduced noise, also remains one slot for other uses or the case may be correspondingly more compact and allow more space on the desk.

Where the Radeon Xpress 3200 chipset is no integrated graphics processor, but also as RD580 CrossFire Xpress chipset is known.

The other mentioned Xpress versions do not have integrated graphics processor, but are tailored for the use of ATI cards and AMD processors. Solely the chipsets:

  • Radeon 9100 IGP PRO
  • Radeon IGP 340
  • Radeon IGP 320

Are integrated graphics processor and the newer G chipsets, such as 785G.

The first integrated graphics units by ATI Technologies were introduced to the market with the suffix " IGP " instead of " QuarkXPress ":

Also integrated on the motherboard, but not to be confused with the above concept, one finds, for example, the relatively old Rage chips, but get a small private memory, and thus behave like real graphics cards. Such solutions are typically found on special motherboards for servers and office PCs.

GPUs on graphics cards are sold under the name ATI Radeon.
