Yaakov Litzman

Yaakov Litzman (Hebrew: יעקב ליצמן, born September 2, 1948 in Germany ) is an Israeli politician and Deputy Prime Minister. He is a descendant of the Ger Hasidic dynasty, and forwards the Agudat - Jisra'el party within the Group of the United Torah Judaism in the Knesset.

Life

Litzman was born in 1948 as the son of Polish Holocaust survivor in a DP camp in Germany. When he was two years old, the family immigrated to the United States; there Litzman grew up in the Borough Park neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. At the age of 17 he went to Israel to study. His first position was that of head of the Chassidic Beis Yaakov - girls school in Jerusalem.

Litzman has five children and lives in Jerusalem.

Policy

He later became active in politics under the direction of the Gerrer Rebbe, Rabbi Simcha Bunim age. After some time he was known as the right hand of the Rebbe, a role he takes on age under the current Rebbe Yaakov Aryeh.

In 1999, the current Rebbe Litzman asked to stand for the candidate list of Aguda regarding the parliamentary elections available. Since then Litzman served in the Knesset as leader of the Agudat - Jisra'el Group.
