Yaeyama District, Okinawa

Yaeyama -gun (Japanese八 重 山 郡) is a gun ( county ) in the southwest of Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. It consists of the municipalities of Taketomi and Yonaguni on the homonymous island and counted on 1 June 2005 5,750 residents to 363 km ² with a population density of 15.8 inhabitants per km ².

Yaeyama -gun includes all the islands of the Yaeyama group except Ishigaki- jima and the disputed Senkaku Islands. The latter two are part of the city Ishigaki.
