Yann-Fañch Kemener
Yann- Fañch Kemener ( [ Jan fãʃ kemẽnɛr ]; born April 7, 1957 in Sainte- Tréphine (Côtes -d'Armor ) ) is a French singer of traditional Breton music and an ethnomusicologist. Yann- Fañch is the Breton form of the first name Jean -François and Kemener means tailor.
In the years 1970 to 1980, he actively participated in the revival of the Kan ha Diskan in Brittany, in particular together with his partner Erik Marchand. As a singer, he was involved in maintaining the traditional singing.
At just thirty, he began to collect songs and contributed in one and a half decades, a considerable wealth of dance songs, mourning songs and poems together, oral traditions from the heart of Brittany ( Breizh primary circuit ).
He taught the Breton language. Other artists such as Louise Ebrel, freshened with him on their knowledge.
In 1977 he won the first prize in the competition Kan ar Bobl ( Breton: Voice of the people ).
His publications and performances (along with the group Barzaz but also with Dan Ar Braz, Didier Squiban, Alain Genty, Aldo Ripoche, Anne Auffret, ...) and the unique sound of his voice make him a prominent person of the Breton song.
He has published numerous CDs and he sang on many festoù - noz.
On September 26, 2009, he was awarded the French Order of ermine.
