Yaqut al-Hamawi

Yaqut al - Hamawi al- Rumi (* around 1179 in Asia Minor, † 1229 in Aleppo, Syria), full name: Shihab ad-Din Abu ' Abd Allah ibn Yaqut al - Hamawi al- Rumi / شهاب الدين أبو عبد الله بن ياقوت الحموي الرومي / Šihāb ad - Dīn Abū ʿ Abd Allāh b. Yaqut al - Hamawi al- Rumi was an Arab geographer of Greek descent. The Nisba al - Hamawi he adopted from the name of his master ͑ Askar ibn Abī Nasr ibn Ibrahim al - Hamawi.

Sold to Baghdad, he was released there in 1199 and Islamic upbringing. As a commercial traveler, librarian and calligrapher, he traveled to Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Khorasan and Khorezm.

Around 1220 Yaqut met in Aleppo with young Muslims from Hungary together and wrote a historically rare report from their narratives about Islam in Hungary.
