School year, the Time it takes for a student to move from one class to the next.

For students a school year usually ends with the beginning of the summer holidays, but not for the teachers and staff, some of which have required attendance in the lesson time. During the school year and between school years, there are school holidays.

Germany

Although not regulated in the Empire still in the Weimar Republic uniform, the school year usually did not begin in Germany since the beginning of the 20th century and since 1920 also in Bavaria, as in other European countries, after the summer holidays, but after the Easter holidays. 1941 school year throughout the German Reich was set to September. The Hamburg Convention of October 28, 1964, the Standing Conference decided to adapt Bavaria and neighboring European countries, and to let the school year beginning on August 1. 1967 two short school years or a long school year of each of ( total ) was required to change from April 1, 1966 performed sixteen months to July 31.

Austria

Switzerland

In Switzerland, the school year is divided into so-called quintals:

France

The school year in France runs from the first day until the day before the first day of the next school year and is determined by law by decree. It takes 36 weeks of school. The first school day usually falls to a week in early September, the last day of school coincides with the first weekend in July or the last weekend in June. The time of the summer holidays, between the last day of school and the first day of the following year ( late August / early September RATTRAPAGE, ) is for oral final examinations ( Baccalaureate, early July) and for investigations generally provided. School year
