Yeshe Tsogyal

Yeshe Tsogyal ( Sanskrit: Jnanasagara ) of Kharchen is one of the great " enlightened masters " of Tibetan Buddhism.

Princess of Kharchen

According to tradition, Yeshe Tsogyal was the daughter of Pelgyi Wongchuk, the ruler of the Principality of Tibetan Kharchen, born and his wife Getso. Both parents of Yeshe Tsogyal had at the time of her conception wondrous dream - visions. Yeshe Tsogyal was according to Tibetan calendar (probably in the year 757 AD ) was born at sunrise of the 10th day of the monkey month of the year of the bird. After the life story of Yeshe Tsogyal her birth was accompanied by weather phenomena and miraculous signs. The lake in front of the house at that time grew to considerable, whereupon the child was given the name Yeshe Tsogyal ( Queen of the Sea of Wisdom). It is considered by Tibetans as an emanation of female enlightened beings. She grew into a woman of almost supernatural beauty and when she was sixteen years old she was taken from the Tibetan king Trisong Detsen to wife.

Consort of Guru Rinpoche

King Trisong Detsen invited in the eighth century the abbot Shantaraksita and the tantric master Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche ) to Tibet to spread Buddhism in Tibet. From this period, the transmission of Buddhist teachings from India to Tibet, the school went forth "Old Translation " ( Nyingma ). At that time, both the King Yeshe Tsogyal also a student of Guru Rinpoche, among others. Yeshe Tsogyal was beyond his tantric consort and main student. She was sent in its entirety the transfer of the Buddhist teachings of Sutra and Tantra. She practiced all teachings, especially the higher tantric techniques of Vajrayana and attained full realization of these practices. Tradition holds that Yeshe Tsogyal attained realization the same as their teacher and that she was equipped by their practice with an everlasting memory. Therefore, they remembered all the teachings that Guru Rinpoche transmitted to it and preserved especially the tantric teachings for future generations by keeping them at the behest of Guru Rinpoche hid in secret places. In this way, hidden teachings are called Termas. Yeshe Tsogyal was crucial for the preservation of the Buddhist teachings at the time of the persecution of Buddhism under King Langdarma (reigned 836-842 ). She spread the Buddhist teachings in many parts of Tibet. According to tradition, she left the world in an incredibly old age, as they gained through their realization power over their life span. Many of the practices that have been preserved by Yeshe Tsogyal for future generations, are still preserved today and are taught in the various schools of Tibetan Buddhism, especially the Nyingma school.

Reincarnation / emanation / residence

Machig Lapdrön, one of the most famous and popular among Tibetan mystics, is regarded as an incarnation of Yeshe Tsogyal, as well as the incarnation of Prajnaparamita.

Tsultrim Allione writes: "In the ' " Life of Yeshe Tsogyel, " Padma Sambhava predicted did Yeshe Tsogyel would be reborn as Machig Lapdron; her consort, Atsara Sale, husband would become Topabhadra, Machig 's; her assistant and Padma Sambhava 's secondary consort, Tashi Khyidren, would be reborn as Machig 's only daughter, and so on. Jomo Memo, one of the most famous female tertöns, was regarded as an emanation of Yeshe Tsogyel.

In her book Tibet way women Allione writes in the chapter on Machig Lapdrön: " The next morning appeared Arya Tara and gave her the hundred warrants to clean the ignorance with the essence of the heart. She said to Lapdrön: ' Yogini, you and an emanation of Buddha Shakyamuni called Topabhadra, who came to Tibet, Prajna and Upaya will connect ( basic knowledge and skillful means ) to each other. ' Footnote 65 explains: " In this way, attention is drawn to the marriage of a Yogini and Yogi. The basic insight ( prajna ) represents the feminine and the skillful means ( upaya ) the male. "
