Yeşilyurt ( Turkish for green home ) is a town in the Aegean region of Turkey. It is located in the province of Muğla and is about 15 km from the provincial capital Muğla away. The former name was Pisye and until 1961 Pisiköy. 2009 the village had 2500 inhabitants.

Geography

Yeşilyurt is located in southwestern Turkey, about 35 km from the coast of the Aegean Sea. The nearest major town is Muğla, which is connected via the Izmir - Muğla highway with an access road to the village. Yeşilyurt lies 492 m above sea level.

History

The history of the village goes to 1500 BC, when the ancient city was founded Pisye. Presumably, the word goes back to the Luwian term pissuwa. Until 1961, the official name was Pisiköy ( dt dirty village). This was however changed because of the inappropriate meaning in Yeşilyurt.

Economy, infrastructure and village life

Most of the inhabitants of the village are engaged in farming. Revenues are sold each week, either in the local market or at the town market in Muğla. In addition, the village has a number of tea houses and kiosks. Those looking for other work, must move to the closest major city. Supermarket, ATM and other things of the constant need are not available. A bus route that begins in the village center, regular trips to the city center of Muğla.

Attractions and Tourism

Every year about 2000 tourists the village to see the local Sehenswürdigekeiten as the famous weaving. In addition, the center is the village mosque and a 600 year old tree. On a tour around the village you can see the houses of the locals, who can not be compared to their design and quality with the houses from Western countries.
