Reception history

The song that Andrews had written for Sandie Shaw, he eventually took on himself and published it in 1965 as his singing debut single. The song was a success across Europe. In the UK by Ken Woodman produced and released by Decca under F12236, reached the 2:23 min long titles in the charts of the music trade magazine New Musical Express in the fall of 1965, second place. Were early as the day after the first radio broadcast in the UK sold 30,000 plates. In Germany Yesterday was one of the German Vogue released together with the Too Bad You Do not Want Me B- side under DV 14429 in September 1965. In November Yesterday Man appeared for the first time in the German charts and eventually became a number -one hit. The same success was the song in Austria. Günter Loose wrote on Yesterday Man a German text titled All am I doing for you, which was also published in 1965 in Vogue under catalog number DV 14438. In French, the song by Monty under the title Ton jour de chance was recorded and released in 1966. In 1974, Robert Wyatt Yesterday coverte Man in reggae sound. As a producer of this version served Nick Mason, Wyatt was accompanied by Gary Windo, Mongezi Feza and John Greaves.
