Yevgeni Mayorov

Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Mayorov (Russian: Евгений Александрович Майоров; born February 11, 1938 in Moscow, † December 10, 1997 ) was a Russian ice hockey player ( striker ). He was the twin brother of Boris Mayorov.

Career

Mayorov was the first Soviet player who played in Finland. His time in the Russian league he spent at HC Spartak Moscow until 15 games to Vehmaisten Urheilijat joined the Finnish SM- liiga in the 1968/69 season. In all, he scored 122 goals in 260 games in the Soviet league.

He was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team early on. On 25 November 1960 he was in a game against Canada for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964. For the national team, he scored 20 goals in 42 internationals. He was once with his team world champion (1963). In 1963 he was inducted into the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame". On February 28, 1965 he played his last international match.

Later (1976 ) he became a journalist and commented many hockey games for the Soviet Union and Russia.
