Yevgeni Trefilov

Yevgeny Vasilyevich Trefilow (Russian: Евгений Васильевич Трефилов; born September 4, 1955 in Beslesny, Krasnodar Krai ) is a Russian handball coach and a former handball player.

Trefilow began with 15 years playing handball at SKIF Krasnodar, and later was active for Uroschai Krasnodar, Astrakhan and Burewestnik Dynamo Krasnodar.

Between 1984 and 1990, coached Trefilow with Kuban Krasnodar his first women's team that won the championship under his leadership in 1988. From 1992 he trained for two years the ladies of Rossijanka Volgograd. From 1993 to 1995 he was assistant coach of the Russian women's national handball team. After Trefilow then coached the Russian Junior Women 's National Team, 1997 he was assistant coach of the Russian men's national handball team, which won the world championship in the same year.

In 1998 Trefilow back to women's handball and became coach of AdyIF Maikop. A year later, he took over as coach of HC Lada Togliatti, the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 the championship and in 2002 won the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 2006 he left Lada, and then trained Zvezda Zvenigorod. Zvezda won under his leadership in 2007 the championship and the EHF Cup and the 2008 EHF Champions League. In summer 2011, Zdravko Zovko took over his coach of Zvenigorod. Then Trefilow returned to HC Lada Togliatti, the 2012 won the EHF Cup. In December 2012, he finished his work as a trainer for health reasons. In July 2013 Trefilow returned to the dugout and took over the women's team Kuban Krasnodar.

On 28 December 1999 Trefilow also took over as coach of the Russian women's national handball team, the 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2009 won the World Cup. Other achievements include the Vice European Cup in 2006 and the Olympic silver medal in 2008. In September 2012, he was relieved of his duties. In September 2013, the Russian Handball Federation announced that Trefilow again takes over as coach of the national women's team.

Trefilow regarded as authoritarian coach, who often react very emotionally during the game.
