Yevhen Shcherban

Yevgeny Schtscherban (Ukrainian Євген Олександрович Щербань; * January 18, 1946; † 3 November 1996) was a Ukrainian businessman and politician. He was a member of the party Liberalna Partiya Ukrayiny and was elected to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, 1994.

Schtscherban and his wife and two technicians were killed on November 3, 1996 at Donetsk airport of persons who were disguised as policemen. Although 2003, eight Tatbeteiligte were sentenced to prison terms, the background to the murder were never fully understood. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office called in January 2013 the former Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko and the former Prime Minister and opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko later as principal fact. Tymoshenko and her defenders reported the accusations as absurd and constructed back, accusing the billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, and in turn, President Viktor Yanukovych in the murder of Schtscherban to have been involved.
