Yitzhak Hofi

Yitzhak Chofi (Hebrew יצחק חופי, sometimes called Yitzhak Hofi; born January 25, 1927 in Tel Aviv) was from 1974 to 1982 director of the Israeli secret service Mossad.

In 1944 Chofi into the Hagana and commanded a company in the Revolutionary War in 1948. Subsequently, he held various commanding positions in the Israeli armed forces, including at the top of the intelligence unit Dov Tamari. In the Yom Kippur War in 1973, he was commander of the Northern Command. Shortly before taking office for the Mossad was Chofi 1974 briefly Israeli chief of staff.

Under his leadership fell among other things, Operation Entebbe, which was not supported by the Mossad itself but running.
