Yoav Galant

Jo'aw Galant (Hebrew יואב גלנט; * 1958 in Jaffa ) is a Lieutenant General ( Aluf ) in the Israeli army and commander of the Southern Command. He studied at the University of Haifa economic and financial management and graduated with a BA from. He joined the Navy in 1977 in the Israeli army and served in the flotilla 13, 1999, he joined the strike force, and since 2002 with the rank of general. In 2005 he was appointed commander of Southern Command. He was also responsible for the Gaza Strip.

Galant was provided for the post of Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi to succeed. The appointment was but two weeks before taking office, withdrawn by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on suspicion of taking advantage in the sale of land around his property.

Galant is married and has three children.
