Yok Đôn National Park

The National Park Yok Đôn ( Vietnamese Quốc gia Vuon Yok Đôn ) is located in Dak Lak, Buon Don district in Vietnam. It was founded on 20 October 1991, covers an area of ​​1155 km ², making it the largest national park in Vietnam.

Topography

The area is relatively flat: There are only two hills south of the river Srepok.

Animal and plant life

About 90 percent of the forest area consisting of natural, deciduous dipterocarp dry forests ( Dipterocarpus obtusifolius, Dipterocarpus turberculatus, Shorea cotusa, Pentacme siamensis and Terminalia tomentos ). The National Park is important for the maintenance of regional species. There have been sighted so far 43 species of mammals, including large mammals such as Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus), gaur (Bos gaurus ), banteng (Bos javanicus) and Schwarzschenkliger Douc ( Pygathrix nigripes ). Furthermore, 245 species of birds, at least 78 species of fish and 85 species of butterflies have been identified, of which many are on the Red List of Vietnam. A significant population of an estimated 400 ears carrier peacock (Pavo muticus ), and the endangered carp fish Probarbus julieni exist in the national park. Possible Weiser exist in Yok Don also occurrence of wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee ) Kouprey (Bos sauveli ) Asiatic (Ursus thibetanus ), jungle cat (Felis chaus ), fishing cat ( Prionailurus viverrinus ), clouded leopard ( Pardofelis nebulosa ), tiger (Panthera tigris ) and Siamese crocodile ( Crocdylus siamensis ).
