Yoko Komiyama

Yōko Komiyama (Japanese小 宫 山 洋子, Komiyama Yōko; born September 17, 1948 in the prefecture of Tokyo, Japan ) is a Japanese politician of the Democratic Party ( Minshutō ). Within the party she belongs to Maehara group. She was from 1998 to 2012 Member of the National Parliament, first in Sangiin, the upper house, then in Shūgiin, the lower house, and from 2011 to 2012 Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Komiyama is the daughter of Ichirō Katō, jurist, and rector of the University of Tokyo, and granddaughter of the deputies and Greater East Asia Minister Kazuo Aoki. She completed her studies in 1972 at the Faculty of Literature at the Seijo University and then worked for the public broadcaster NHK, for she hosted, among others, the news broadcast NHK News Wide. In 1998, she left the station and moved into politics.

In the election of 1998 Komiyama was on the proportional list of the Democratic Party into Sangiin, the upper house, elected. There she was, among others, Chairman of the Environment Committee. In 2003 she gave up her seat to a candidate in the election for the seat of Shūgiin stabbed Kōki Ishii in the 6th electoral district of Tokyo. You clearly won with 53% of the vote and was the seat with the regular elections in the same year to defend. In 2005, she was subject to almost Takao Ochi (LDP ) and was re-elected on the proportional representation block Tokyo. In 2009 she won clearly against Ochi in the constituency.

Yoshihiko Noda called them 2 September 2011 as the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare in his cabinet. This item she lost in the third cabinet reshuffle on 1 October 2012. In December, they lost in the 2012 election Shūgiin their constituency again Takao Ochi and also missed re-election by proportional representation block.
