Yoshihito, Prince Katsura

Prince Yoshihito of Katsura (Japanese桂 宫 宜 仁 亲王, Katsura -no- miya Yoshihito - shinnō; born February 11, 1948) is a member of the Japanese Imperial Family. His official title is His Royal Highness Prince Katsura ( Yoshihito ).

Family

Katsura was born from the marriage of Prince Mikasa ( Takahito ) of Japan, the fourth and youngest son of the Japanese Emperor Taishō and Empress Teimei. From the marriage of the Prince and Princess Mikasa five children: Princess Yasuko of Mikasa ( born 1944 ), Prince Tomohito of Mikasa ( 1946-2012 ), Prince Katsura ( b. 1948 ), Princess Masako of Mikasa ( born 1951 ) and Prince Takamado ( Nobuhito ) ( 1954-2002 ).

Life

Katsura studied Political Science at Gakushuin University. After graduating in 1971 was followed by a postgraduate problem Australian National University in Canberra. From 1974 to 1985 he worked for the Japanese broadcasting company NHK.

After a few strokes in May 1988, he has health impaired and confined to a wheelchair. Nevertheless, he is committed to social public institutions. He still has repeatedly visited Australia in 1994 as various children's facilities along with Princess Tomohito of Mikasa. He has held several honorary positions, such as

  • President of the Japan Australia New Zealand Society
  • President of the Agricultural Society of Japan
  • President of the Japan Forestry Association
  • President of the Japan Arts & Crafts Association
  • President of the Japanese Urushi Craft Association

He since 1979 honorary member of the Catholic Student Association AV Edo Rhenaniastraße to Tokyo in Cartellverband the Catholic German student fraternities.
