Yostos

Yostos ( äthiop. ዮስቶስ, also Yostos Delba Iyassu, Justus, throne name Tsehay Sagad ፀሓይ ሰገድ, " before the sun bends " ) (* probably before 1690, † February 19, 1716 in Gondar ), was one of the highest Ethiopian dignitaries and 1711-1716 Negus Nagast ( Emperor ) of Ethiopia.

The traditions of his reign are rather sparse. He probably did not come from the then-ruling Solomonic dynasty. He served under the Emperors Tekle Haymanot I. and Tewoflos the dignity of Bejirond. After the death of Tekle Haymanot I. He supported the claim to the throne by his son Tewoflos and was raised after his accession to the throne to the rank of Ras and entrusted with the administration of the provinces of Semien and Tigre. As a result of ongoing unrest and intrigue, fueled by the various faiths at the court, Ras Yostos was taken but later removed and caught his offices. After the sudden death of the Emperor Tewoflos Ras Yostos came free and was enthroned on October 14, 1711 as the new emperor, as the Ethiopian nobility and the high clergy were not on one of the sons of Emperor Iyasu I, David and Bakaffa, some.

During his reign, it was not possible Yostos to end the conflicts and struggles of the parties to the heir apparent. In December 1715 a poison attack took place at Kaiser Yostos, which meant that the emperor was paralyzed from that date. He withdrew almost completely from public life and tried to use his son as heir to the throne Fasiledes. On February 19, 1716 Yostos eventually died. Supposedly David, the son of Emperor Iyassus I., slew a seriously ill Yostos to himself as David III. to climb the Ethiopian imperial throne.

Yostos has several churches, among others, can be built in Gondar during his reign. He was married and had a son.
