Yue Minjun

Yue Minjun ( Chinese:岳敏君, born in 1962 in Heilongjiang Province, China) is a contemporary Chinese artist.

He is regarded as one of the leaders of the Chinese avant-garde. One of his trademarks are his " smiling faces ", in which people are presented with a disfiguring or alienated laugh. We are especially famous his oil paintings The execution, The Massacre of Chios and the Pope, each of them scored 2007 at an auction in London at a price of several million euros. The motif of the " smiling faces " can also be found in his water color paintings, sculptures and prints.

In Vancouver, the sculpture comes labyrinth maze - ing A- Laughter by him, which was as part of the Vancouver International Biennale (2009-2011) installed. Each of the 14 bronze sculptures is about 2.5 m high and about 250 kg. The sculptures stand at Morton Park at English Bay.
