Yuji Hyakutake

Yuji Hyakutake (Japanese百 武 裕 司, Yuji Hyakutake; * July 7, 1950 in Shimabara, † 10 April 2002) was a Japanese amateur astronomer.

With the help of his 25 × 150 binoculars he succeeded in the discovery of two comets. On December 25, 1995, he discovered the first comet named after him C/1995 Y1 ( Hyakutake ) in the constellation Libra. Comet C/1996 His second B2 ( Hyakutake ), which he also discovered on 30 January 1996 at the constellation Libra, a few months after its discovery developed into one of the brightest comets of the 20th century.

He died of an aneurysm.

The asteroid ( 7291 ) Hyakutake was named after him.
