Yunna Morits

Junna Moriz Petrovna (Russian Юнна Петровна Мориц; born June 2, 1937 in Kiev) is a Russian poet and translator.

Her first poems she published in 1954 and 1957, she published her first volume of poetry. In 1961 she joined the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow from. She had an early fight with repression of the state apparatus and in 1957 was expelled from Moscow. Her books have been 1961 not laid until 1970, since at that time there were so-called black lists for publishers and censors.

Despite these political influences on her work Junna Moriz is not a political but a lyrical poet. Her poems are written in the tradition of classical poetry, but can be described as absolutely modern anyway. Through its poetic influences she says herself: My constant contemporary of Pushkin was the next companion Pasternak, Akhmatova, Tsvetaeva and Mandelstam, but my teachers were Andrei Platonov and Thomas Mann.
