Yuri Savichev

Yuri Nikolayevich Sawitschew (Russian Юрий Николаевич Савичев; born February 13, 1965 in Moscow ) is a retired Russian football player.

He is eight-time National Player of the USSR. In 1988 he won with his team the gold medal ( silver: Brazil, Bronze: Germany ) in football at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, he scored in extra time in the final the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory for the USSR.

Career

Sawitschew moved in 1992 from Greece to the then Bundesliga 1.FC Saarbrücken. Here he completed all League games in the 1992/93 season and scored eight goals. After the descent he remained for one year in the second division. He scored twelve goals in 35 league games. In the season 1994/95 he moved to FC St. Pauli, who was then also played in the second division. With the club he rose promptly to the Bundesliga. Already in the second Bundesliga year, his susceptibility to injury, it was noticeable, so that he could contest only three games. After the descent of the FC St. Pauli in the Second Bundesliga to Sawitschew recovered and was able to participate more in 25 games in the 1997/98 season, where he scored eight goals.
