Yuri Pavlovich Syomin (Russian Юрий Павлович Сёмин; born May 11, 1947 in Orenburg, USSR ) is a retired Soviet football player and current coach of Dynamo Kiev.

Syomin has become known primarily for his nearly twenty years of year-long activity coach (1986-2005) at Lokomotiv Moscow. In 2005, he was also coach of the Russian national team.

Career

Player

At the age of 16 years Syomin started professional football at Ruschi Oryol in the third Soviet league. A year later he moved to Spartak Moscow. With 20 years he joined local rivals Dynamo Moscow, with whom he celebrated his only success as a player, the Soviet Cup, where. Syomin left the club in 1971 because of dissonance with the coach, who did not want to set it up in a European match. After this station, he played in four other clubs, Qairat Almaty, Novosibirsk Tschkalowez, Lokomotiv Moscow and FC Kuban Krasnodar until 1980 he ended his career

Coach

Sjomins first coaching position was in 1983 Pamir Dushanbe, he saved them from relegation from the second Soviet League, for which he was appointed in the Tajik SSR as an honorary coach. In 1986 he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was to remain for 19 years. During his tenure, he made a mid-table club a top Russian club, who won the Russian Cup in 2002 and 2004. He also won the Soviet Cup once, four Russian Cups and drew twice the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup.

In 2005 he left Lok Moscow, to help them to qualify for the 2006 World Cup, the Russian national team. He failed in the attempt and left the national team again. From 2005 to 2006 he coached Dynamo Moscow. In 2007 he took over the role of president at his former club Lokomotiv Moscow, but he had to give up a year later due to poor placement of the League Association.

The end of 2007, he signed a contract with Dynamo Kiev until 2010 with an option for a further season, who assured him the coaching job. In May 2009, he left after winning the Ukrainian Cup and the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Dynamo Kiev and was again coach of Lok Moscow.
