Yury Chaika

Yury Yakovlevich Chaika (Russian Юрий Яковлевич Чайка; born May 21, 1951 in Nikolaievsk on-Amur ) is the Russian Prosecutor-General since 23 June 2006.

Life

Yuri Chaika is the son of Jacob and Maria Ivanovna Michailewitsch Chaika. His father was Jewish, his mother was Russian.

In 1976 he graduated from the Law Institute in Sverdlovsk, worked as a prosecutor in Irkutsk and was first Vice - Prosecutor General of Russia.

1994 there was a scandal when he advised the newspaper to buy shares in the company Hoper -Invest, and this went bust.

Already from April to August 1999, he was briefly Attorney General, then took over but in the same year the Office of the Minister of Justice. Since 2006 he is again Attorney General.

Yuri Chaika is a member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Private

Yuri Chaika is married and has two grown sons ( Artem (born September 25, 1975 ) and Igor ).
