Yushu Kitano

Yushu Kitano (Japanese北野 佑 秀, Kitano Yushu, born April 14, 1930 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese wrestler. He won a silver medal in the free style flyweight at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki.

Career

Yushu Kitano took in 1952 in Helsinki at the Olympic Games in freestyle wrestling part. He wrestled there flyweight weight class, which then had their weight limit at 52 kg body weight. Until then, Kitano was in the international ring camp completely unknown. He had participated in any international championship. However, he stepped in Helsinki on very self-conscious and defeated there Rolf Johansson from Sweden, Mohamed El Ward, Egypt, Carlos Davila from Mexico, Louis Baise from South Africa and Mahmoud Mollaghassemi from Iran. Against Hasan Gemici from Turkey he lost on points. The determination of the Olympic champion was not been so easy, because Kitano, Gemici and Mollaghassemi had defeated each other. At the end of the tournament Kitano and Gemici had five false points, Mollaghassemi but six. Since Gemici Kitano had defeated, he became Olympic champion, Kitano was awarded the silver medal and the bronze medal Mollaghassemi.

Yushu Kitano started in 1954 at the Asian Games in Manila and arrived there in the bantamweight behind the Pakistani Mohammad Din to 2nd place. The taking place in Tokyo in the same year World Championships he again took part in the flyweight. He came there to victories over Mirian Zalkalamanidse from the USSR and Basilio Pabila from the Philippines. But the decisive battle for the world title he lost narrowly against Hüseyin Akbaş from Turkey.

At other international championships Yushu Kitano took no further part.
