Z-Drug

The anglicism Z -drugs, which means as much as Z substances or Z- drugs, refers to a class of modern hypnotics ( non-benzodiazepine agonists) first choice, for the drugs zolpidem, zopiclone [ also known as ( S)- zopiclone ] and zaleplon count. These substances are so named because their names all start with the letter Z. Z -drugs affect sleep- less pronounced also anxiolytic, anticonvulsant and muscle. It is now believed that the potential for dependence corresponds to that of benzodiazepines.

Zolpidem is nowadays the most widely prescribed sleeping pill.
