Zadonshchina

The epic of the Battle of the Don (Russian Zadonščina or Sadonschtschina ) was probably written around the turn of the 14th and 15th century by the boyars and later priest sifoni of Bryansk. It portrays the victory of the Moscow Grand Prince Dmitri Donskoi over the Tatars at Kulikovo Pole on the Mamaev ( Schnepf field). It is recorded in several manuscripts from the 15th to the 17th century.

The epic is based on chronicles from the late 14th century and contains many forms and images of the oral poetry of the time. Both ideologically and stylistically it has strong similarities with the Song of Igor. Probably the Tale of Igor 's older and served the author as a template. The argument that the epic has of the Battle of the Don in comparison to the Song of Igor epigonic trains, was cited in the discussion of the Tale of Igor as evidence of its authenticity.

The author of the Zadonščina apparently has simply taken some passages from the Song of Igor, on the other, the style, the way is to create literary images copied. Like the Song of Igor 's epic battle at the Don pleads for the unity of the Russian princes under the leadership of Moscow. In contrast to Igor song that gives a negative example for unilateral action of a single prince, it is based on a positive example of how successful the princes may be common.
