Zakaria Asidah

Zakaria Asidah ( born June 22, 1972 in Frederiksberg ) is a retired Danish Taekwondo practitioners, who was active in the heavyweight division. He each won a silver medal at the World and European Championships and once took part in the Olympic Games.

As Asidah came to Taekwondo, he was already 20 years old. He started for the club Nørrebro Taekwondo Club. In 1995 he was inducted into the national team. His first international title fights denied Asidah in the World Cup 1997 in Hong Kong, where up to 83 kg, he reached the round of sixteen in the class, but there was eliminated against Faissal Ebnoutalib. In the following years he was able to reach in several championships quarter-finals, but the catchment in a semi-final was denied him. Only at the 2003 World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen Asidah finally won his first international medal. In the heavy- weight over 84 kg starting he fought before the finals and won the silver medal after a defeat. Asidah qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, left there in his opening fight and finished third in the final standings in eleventh. The following years were unsuccessful for Asidah in several international championships he suffered an opening defeat. It was not until the 2010 European Championships in St. Petersburg, he was again on track back, Asidah reached the finals and won his first European Championship silver medal. After another unsuccessful World Championships in Gyeongju, missed attending the 2012 Olympic Games Asidah ended his active career.
