Zarand (Persian زرند ) is a city in the province Kermān in Iran. It is located about 75 km northwest of the provincial capital Kermān.

2005, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 Mw, the city and the area around Zarand, where hundreds of residents were killed.

Fossil finds

Since 2004 the investigations of 1972 were discovered, added 109 million old dinosaur footprints from a village near Zarand again. It is believed that this is the impressions of a female dinosaur and their young.

The north of Kerman is for paleontologists of particular interest, since there are so many fossil fields from different geological periods there. So far there among other fossils have been found of graptolites from the Ordovician to continue fossils of dinosaurs of the Jurassic and Cretaceous, and Tertiary mammals. Iran is in relation to the fossil record of the leading countries with fossil finding regions such as Maragheh, Varzaghan and Kerman.
