Żarka nad Nysą

The place Zarka nad Nysa ( German Sercha, 1937-1945 Burgundenau; nad Nysa for Nisou ) is a mayor's office of the Polish urban and rural community Pieńsk ( Penzig ) in the powiat Zgorzelecki ( county Zgorzelec ) in the Province of Lower Silesia and counted in February 2010 158 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Zarka is located on the eastern floodplain of the Lusatian Neisse river in the former Görlitz Heath. The Droga wojewódzka 351 leads through the town and connects it with the five- kilometers to the north Pieńsk and eight kilometers south of Zgorzelec. On the west, the German side of the river lie the districts of Görlitz Ludwig village and upper village of Nine. The railway line Węgliniec - Zgorzelec tangent to the location on the eastern edge, but does not have a breakpoint in Zarka.

South of the town is a large flooded gravel pit.

History

Was first mentioned in 1419 under the name Zarka Serchaw. Already in 1426 then appeared on the former German place name Sercha. After the Silesian parish Almanac of 1899 Sercha belonged to the parish in neighboring Lissa. Only in 2000 the town got its own house of worship. By 1945 a bridge across the Neisse Sercha with low - village Ludwig joined on the western side of the river. 1937, the town was renamed as part of the Germanization of place names in the Third Reich in Burgundenau. The place name should but have only a short time, because after the end of the Second World War, the Oder- Neisse line was Burgundenau, lying east, placed under Polish administration and was called Zarka nad Nysa since.

The place name is derived, similar to the German towns big Särchen ( Upper Sorbian Wulke Ždźary ) Särchen ( Zdźar ) Särichen ( Zdźarki ) and the Polish places Żarki Wielkie ( United Särchen ) and Żarki Małe (small Särchen ) from altsorbischen Zdar, Tsar " fire " from. It is likely that the hall was opened by burning a forest land for colonization.
