Żarnowa

Żarnowa is a village of the municipality Strzyżów in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland.

Geography and location

Żarnowa located south of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship east of the confluence of the rivers Wisłok and Stobnica.

History

In the first half of the 15th century originated in Poland many new settlements. It is likely that Żarnowa at the turn 14-15. Century arose. It is guaranteed that a certain Mikołaj z Pietraszówki bought the place in 1433 and the place in 1536 went to Mikołaja Machowskiego. Its strategic location at the crossroads of Wisłok and Stobnica resulted mainly in the 17th and 18th centuries repeatedly cause devastating battles took place on the floor of Żarnowa.

On 28 July 1944, the inhabitants of the village defended the railway bridge against the nascent retreating Germans successfully. She was saved from destruction. There is an annual two-day military picnic in Żarnowa, reminiscent of the fighting on 28 July 1944. The inhabitants Żarnowas were awarded for securing the transition at Wisłok the Polish Cross of Valor. The town was incorporated for urban and rural community Strzyżów 1998. From 1975 to 1998, the town belonged administratively to the province of Rzeszów.

Attractions

  • From the 17th century shrine is obtained, which is reminiscent of the battles that have taken place in Żarnowa.
