Żarowo, West Pomeranian Voivodeship

Żarowo ( German Saarow ) is a village in the municipality of Stargard ( Stargard in Pomerania ) in the Pomeranian Voivodeship West Pomeranian.

Geographical location

Żarowo located in Eastern Pomerania on the Ihna, about seven kilometers northwest of the city of Stargard and 28 kilometers east of the city of Stettin ( Szczecin).

History

The village was first mentioned in 1248 in records under the name Sarowe. Later, the church village was a property of the town of Stargard in Pomerania.

Around 1780 there were 23 full Saarow farmers, half farmer, Kossäten, four Büdner, a preacher widow's house, a schoolmaster, a tavern, a blacksmith and also taking into account the storage and shepherds houses a total of 46 fireplaces. In 1834, when the meanness division was performed, the number of full- farmers had dropped to twenty. In 1856, a devastating fire took place in the Villa Contessa where most inhabitants were lost and forced their belongings, going into debt to accomplish the reconstruction.

Around 1925, the boundaries of the municipality Saarow had a surface area of 10.2 km ², and in the municipality were 71 houses. In the municipality there were two places of residence:

In the year 1925 366 inhabitants were counted in Saarow, which were distributed to 92 households.

By 1945 Saarow belonged to the district of Pomerania Pomerania.

Towards the end of World War II Saarow early March 1945, occupied by the Soviet army. After the war, the town was placed under Polish administration. Saarow was renamed Żarowo.

Religion

The population in 1945 to present in Saarow belonged to the Protestant denomination. In 1925, all inhabitants were Protestants.
