Zaynab bint Jahsh

Zainab bint Jahsh (* 592, † 641 ) (Arabic زينب بنت جحش, Zaynab bint Ǧaḥš DMG ) was a wife of Muhammad. He married her after her divorce from Zayd ibn Haritha his adopted son.

Her mother, Umayma bint ( daughter of ) Abd al - Muttalib was an aunt of Muhammad. Zainab was one of the first Muhajiroun and was married after the Hijrah with Zaid, the adopted son of Muhammad. When Muhammad saw her one day alone in her house, he fell in love with it. Zaid noticed this and broke up on this from her. Zainab was a friend of Aisha. Furthermore, she was known for her generosity to the poor: when she died, she had nothing, because they had given everything to the poor.

In the Christian Middle Ages, the circumstances of the marriage of Zainab to the Prophet and their enforced separation of the anti-Islamic propaganda Zaid served. Due to this, modern Muslim apologists and biographers strive to represent Mohammed in a more favorable light.

Zainab in the Quran

The followers of Muhammad saw in his marriage in violation of the Qur'anic prohibition to marry the former wife of his son, as adopted sons in the pre-Islamic Arab society had the same status as the biological sons. One answer came in the form of a revelation:

"God has any man two hearts within him ... And he has not really made your adopted sons your sons to. That's your speech out of your mouth ... "

This should be stated that an adopted son did not have the same legal status as that of a biological son and thus the marriage to his former wife was legitimate.

Through the marriage to Zainab Mohammed seems to have intended to demonstrate a break with pre-Islamic practices. Accordingly, the Qur'an describes the circumstances of the marriage:

" And (then) (meaning Said ibn Haritha, the freedman of Muhammad ) as you to that, the God as well as you grace had been shown, you said: ' Keep your wife to yourself and fear God! ', And geheimhieltest in you, which would ( but ) make God manifest, and fear of the people had while more before God should be afraid! ( Ie had divorced her ) When Said then had done his business with you, we gave it to you in marriage, so that the believers (in the future ) because of ( his marriage ) the wives of their sons nominal, if this ( w. them) their have done business with them, should not feel depressed. What God ordains, ( inevitably ) is executed. And the Prophet needs to because of what God has ordained for him not to feel oppressed ... "

Is also expected that - as in the majority of the marriages of the Prophet - political reasons have played a role.

In addition to the so-called Schleiervers ( Ayat al - hijab, see 33:53 ), of the Prophet's wives committed to the wearing of the veil in the wedding night with Zainab have been revealed. Some traditions bring further 66:1 in connection with the jealousy of the rest of the wives of the Prophet against Zainab.
