Zdzisław Jachimecki

Zdzisław Jachimecki (* July 7, 1882 in Lviv, † October 26, 1953 in Warsaw) was a Polish musicologist and educator.

Life

Jachimecki had as a child piano and violin lessons and was active as a high school student as a choral conductor and composer. In 1901, he took courses in music theory at the Conservatory of Galician society in Stanisław Neviadomski and Henryk Jarecki. In 1902, he studied musicology with Guido Adler in Vienna, counterpoint and composition with Hermann Graedener and Arnold Schoenberg, philosophy of Friedrich Jodl and Slavic Studies at Vatroslav Jaglicz.

1903 published his first article in the Warsaw Echo Muzyczne, Teatralne i Artystyczne, and he published in Krakow poems by Adam Asnyk, Lucjan Rydl and Leopold Staff. In 1906 he completed his studies with a doctorate about Mikołaj Gomółka with Guido Adler.

Then he returned to Krakow and joined the staff of the magazine Przegląd Polski. From 1907 to 1913 he taught music history and composition. In addition, he has published articles in the journals Przegląd Muzyczny and Kwartalnik Muzyczny and in the Sprawozdaniac Krakowskiej Akademii Umiejętności. In 1911 he became a lecturer in 1918 professor of musicology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. 1932-33 he was here Dean of the Faculty of Arts. He also gave guest lectures in Rome, Florence, Padua, Bologna, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Budapest.

As part of the promotion Cracow, he was arrested on Monday, November 6, 1939 by the SS -Sturmbannführer Bruno Müller with over 100 professors and deported to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. He could, after a few months to return to Krakow and were there in the underground music history and theory.
