Zeth Höglund

Carl Zeth " Zäta " Konstantin Höglund (* 1884 in Gothenburg, † August 13, 1956 ) was a Swedish communist, later Social Democratic politician, author and journalist. It can be regarded as the founder of the Swedish communism.

Life

Zeth Höglund grew up in a middle class family in Gothenburg. His father, Carl Hoglund, worked as a clerk and later as a shoemaker. Zeth was the youngest of ten children, in the only son. His parents were very religious, but they did not like the control of the people by the church. Höglund later became an atheist.

Höglund spent some months of 1903 together with Fredrik Ström in Paris, where the two visited Sweden socialist events. In 1904 he became a member of Sveriges socialdemokratiska arbetareparti ( " Social-Democratic Labour Party of Sweden " ), in 1905 he actively supported the Norwegian efforts for independence. A little later he got to know Karl Liebknecht, who commended him in one of his books, Militarism and Anti- militarism.

In the years 1940-1950 was Höglund Mayor of Stockholm.
